Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The Housekeeping Unit is a part of the Physical Plant Department,Business Affairs Division of the University. This unit providesconventional cleaning care to all UNCW academic and supportbuildings both on and off campus. Work involves performance on acontinuing basis of variety of tasks in accordance withHousekeeping procedures. Performs some maintenance on housekeepingequipment.

Brief Summary of Work for this Position
The Housekeeper will be accountable for the care and cleanliness ofoffices, classrooms, and multi-purpose facilities. This positionwill also sweep, mop, vacuum floor surfaces, clean windows, walls,woodwork, and light fixtures. This position maintains bathrooms ina sanitary state, replenishes paper supplies and soap as necessary,and empties trash receptacles as needed. The Housekeeper’s cart aswell as the building’s closet must be well-organized and maintainthe appropriate inventory levels of all cleaning products. Thisposition understands and meets the specific cleaning needs of eachbuilding. Additional capabilities needed to include excellentcustomer service skills to listen and respond to customer’s needsand the ability to maintain good employee relationships withsupervisors and co-workers. This position will provide backupsupport for special projects and other activities, as needed, withspecific instructions given as required for execution of morecomplex tasks.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Some knowledge of cleaning procedures, ability to followinstructions and to perform medium to heavy physical work; or anequivalent combination of training and experience.
Preferred education, professional skills andexperience
High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession ofthe competencies necessary to perform the work. Some knowledge ofcleaning procedures. Two years of previous commercial/industrialcleaning experience.

NC Driver’s License preferred but not required.
